Emma’s Testimony

Ever since I can remember I have always believed that there was a God. I called myself a Christian but I never practiced it. I was “Lukewarm” a little in a little out, a token prayer now and then, went church on Easter like all good Christians do.

However, my life changed forever back in the fall of 2007….

I met the man of my dreams! His name was Bryan, he was larger than life. 6’2 dark brown hair, green eyes, perfect white teeth and the body of an athlete. He swept me off my feet; we loved all the same things. We spent 3 months together having a blast! Vegas weekends, dinner dates, baseball games, weekend trips to the beach. I was falling in love fast!

We were invited to a 2008 New Year’s party by one of his friends. I was so excited, a party! I haven’t been to a real party for years. I bought a new dress, had my hair and nails done. I wanted to look my best. Bryan wore all black; he looked like a rock star. By the time we got to the party it was already in full swing. People were dancing and drinking and having fun.

Bryan headed straight for the bar and started drinking Jack Daniel shots, I had a diet coke, I would be the designated driver for the evening. There were over 50 people there. Bryan and I keep losing ourselves in the crowd. After a couple of hours Bryan was pretty drunk.

I was talking to a man I met there, he was telling me about a ski trip he took to Utah.

That was the last thing I remembered of that evening until I woke up in a hospital 10 days later.

This is what I’ve been told……
Bryan became so jealous to see me talking with this guy that he grabbed me by my hair and dragged me out the front door. Everyone at the party followed to watch as Bryan beat me unconscious on the front lawn. Not one of them tried to stop him. He left me there as he sped off in his truck.

I was rushed straight into emergency surgery to stop a bleed on my brain. The doctor told my brother that 30 minutes into the surgery my heart stopped for 6 minutes. I was put on an induced coma for 10 days. Like a dream the only thing I remember is what I conceived to be an Angel, the most beautiful being. Surrounded by light. No words were spoken, just a warm love embrace.

It took me several months to fully recover.

Bryan was caught. He was given 6 years and was just denied parole earlier this year.

The only visible scar I carry is a small mark above my right eyebrow; however I carry deep emotional scars of fear and trust. I believe there is a reason God hasn’t healed me from my fear, I believe he will though in his time.

My life has been changed forever! I now have a close relationship with the Lord.

"Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness." Psalm 107:8-9

"Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can declare all His praise?" Psalm 106:1-2

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

  4. Truly, some things look so negative from the onset but God can turn all of those around for His glory. Praise God for your testimony.

  5. Emma, that was very moving.

I really feel for you. When things like this happen, it may be hard to see the hand of God for quite some time. When enough time goes by it is easier to see how certain things actually work out for the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purpose (Rom 8:28).

It is obvious to all that come in contact with you that you have a call and a purpose. You are sowing good things into the lives of many people by sharing the love of Jesus.

    Your crown is shining brightly.

  6. Emma,

I am so sorry you had to go thru this ordeal, I would have never imagined it; but I am so glad that God was right there for you and used this to bring you to him.

    God will always bless you!

  7. Instead of thanking the skilled surgeons who managed to keep you alive and help you heal you thank 'God'. This is why I always question Theist reasoning... and have lost my faith.

  8. @ pleasedeleteme All life is sustained by factors out of our control, generally speaking. We cannot control the sun nor provision or powers of nature. Theist reasoning ascribes these sources to God. The fact that the surgeons were there in the right time and able to perform the surgery means according to their ability without trouble would mean that God or the unseen force had allowed for it.

  9. Prescribing the existence of surgeons to "God" is just plain ignorant. I understand thanking human advancement, thanking the universe for existing, however since we can't label/understand the 'force' behind the universe(why everything was in place as it was, why we exist) we can't really thank this unlabeled force.

  10. @Emma, your story is very touching. I thank God you made it through ok, that the right people were right there at the right time. I also want to say that God wants to make you whole, and I mean totally whole. It might take time, and effort but you will get there. Thank you for sharing! God bless you.
@pleasedeleteme I am not commenting on your comment because I don't want to sound "insane". I do pray that God reveals Himself to you in a way that only He can. Then.... your outlook will be different. God bless you.

  11. @pleasedeleteme you say we can't understand the force behind everything. So you believe humanity does not have and will never know the truth behind existence? If you think you cannot you never will and that goes with any cognition or action...I think I can therefore potential exists. Now I may need help but just claiming that it is not possible to know seems quite shallow reasoning.

But I do see where you are coming from. Attributing every action to a cosmic force of will seems to confound the way we see our daily world and those in it.

    Glad to discuss

  12. @Pleasedeleteme If you have not met God then it is impossible to prove either His existence, or lack of existence. If you have met Him it is then impossible to disprove Him for the one who experienced Him. You can debate reasoning, and even perspective, but you cannot debate experience.

Whether you believe in God or not, Love is inherently true to our future and survival as a people and planet. Everyone who participates in genuine charity that is well received feels something deep in their identity that they cannot deny. We need that to advance peace and civilization.

I can't speak for Emma, but for me, knowing Love is to know the divine, and I believe that God is both Love and divine. I believe Love is a mirror and it reveals our purpose in the earth. I believe that no one in this earth can find fulfillment outside of Love and that selfishness is not Love. It is laying down selfishness and helping others that makes us whole and complete.

In the end Jesus shows us the best example of Love and thus becomes our mirror identifying the need we have to become the kind of Love that He demonstrates.

I have found it impossible to separate perfect Love from the message of Jesus Christ and I have encountered God in ways that are more real than anything I have ever experienced in the natural.

Doctors are blessings. Those blessings are sent from God. Her situation was impossible and doctors could have easily lost her even in their skill and expertise. Even doctors (at least the majority of the ones I have met) will tell you when your survival, recovery, etc is something they consider to be a miracle and if they can say it, then I think they are ok with the patient giving credit to God because they are in agreement with the doctor.

That's humility and honor, and both are needed in a person of character. These are attributes of Love and a person healthy and capable of building lasting relationships, family, and community.

I have been in many impossible situations. Too many miracles have taken place to call it all coincidence. I have also experienced the miraculous, and no I don't expect you to believe it. I am accountable to witness to it though.

I hope you find fulfillment, purpose, and lasting happiness :)

...and Emma, you are great, and I know you don't need rescuing from me or anyone else. Just wanted to throw in my two cents. lol. Keep writing and sharing your experiences. I'm thankful to know you.

  13. This is an astonishing testimony, Emma. I can't imagine the trauma you must have felt when you discovered what happened. I'm grateful, however, that you turned to the One who can heal you completely and give you hope and a future. He has a plan for your life and a purpose for everything that happens to us.It sounds as if you are pursuing answers to your issues from the only One with answers. May God richly bless you and heal you completely.

  15. Thanks Emma...God has a purpose for your life and even for what you go through still that has not yet been healed. I know fear as well and sometimes I wonder what the point of it is. Praying for your healing as well as my own and all those who suffer the effects of trauma in this life. Thank you again.
