The Body of Christ

Image
As I peruse my social media timelines this blessed Sunday morning, I see posts that are enlightening, many are uplifting, several are upsetting and a few perplex me. . As a follower of ‪#‎Jesus‬ ... I really enjoy watching and reading about the activities of Christian ministries as they preach the gospel, pray for the sick, meet the needs of the poor and hungry, prophesy, exhort and teach the body of Christ via social media. (Shameless plug: I particularly enjoy my husband's posts). But I have started to notice stark differences emerging between several ministries and I believe I am suppose to share this (I am not going to reveal particulars because I do not wish to breed division ,,,those who are hearing the same from God on this will discern). When I read an entire lengthy post that is exhorting the body of Christ to do a particular thing, think a particular way or is releasing some tidbit of wisdom or revelation for us to ponder or reflect... I am struck by those who ...

How do I React?

Image
Galatians 5:16 - This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.   Here is my biggest challenge in my walk with ‪#‎Jesus‬ . Learning to NOT react or to react under direction of the Holy Spirit and not my own carnal thinking.... to NOT allow my emotion to determine my reaction, but to trust in God's truth and wisdom and to love, to listen, and to follow His lead even when I don't fully understand. Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. We are prompted to ACT, and to REACT every day of our life. But, more often than not, we can react in ways that are not Biblical, not life-giving.. that are contradictory to God's first and greatest commandment (Love) and Jesus' teaching: Matthew 5:39 - But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him...

Kingdom Living

Imagine traveling to some exotic location filled with interesting people and places to visit. You check into a very luxurious hotel that caters to your every need. Fresh flowers await you as you enter your very private hotel suite. There is a mint on your pillow and a large balcony with a perfect view of the setting sun. Three delicious gourmet meals are delivered daily to your door. You enjoy hot coffee on your balcony every morning and soak in the oversized jacuzzi every evening. You relax in your bed at the end of each day reading a really good book. It sounds like paradise, and I suppose that it is.  But consider staying in that room, alone, for a month, a year.. or even a lifetime!  What if you never ventured out of your hotel suite to encounter the people and culture surrounding you? What if you never contributed to the well-being of another person? What if you never shared your life or experiences with anyone else? This, sadly, can be compared to the spiritual life of ...

Walking after the Holy Spirit

Image
Romans 8:2 - " For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death ." I have often pondered the legalism that I've witnessed among people who genuinely believe in the supernatural work of God. How is it that so many structures and rules are put in place (over and over) by those who left the mainline churches to follow a more peculiar path with ‪#‎Jesus‬ ... only to find themselves adhering to an even stricter code of religion? It seems there is some sort of trap that ensnares believers of every type. We must do it this way. We must say it that way. This is heresy. That is idolatry. We must be 'covered'. We must pray this way. We must worship that way . You can't do that . All of these statements are uttered again and again by sold out Christians (including me!). Why are we doing this? Because we don't want to abide in His presence always. We fear living in the unknown. Where are we going? What...

Jesus' Love is Selfless

Image
The fall of man resulted from one selfish act.   Genesis 3:4-6 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  But selfishness is the opposite of God's will. Matthew 22:  37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Every sin emanates from selfishness. The first sins were committed by satan who wanted to el...

A lie from the pit...

I have recently started to become aware of how the enemy has a grip on the lives of Christians. Here is what I have for you today... Often, when a person accepts Christ, they go through a honeymoon period. During this time their zeal for the Lord is high, and their desire to do good works  makes it easy to continually walk in the presence of God. Other believers are inspired by their walk with the Lord, and generally, even when a new believer faces adversity in their life, they lean on Jesus as the Holy Spirit flows in and through them to live a life of grace and strength in Christ. Later on, the spirit of revival in a new believer's life begins to wax cold  as they spend more and more time in this world. They begin to lose sight of their zeal for Jesus as they fellowship with lukewarm or backslidden Christians. A few worldly television shows or movies, a couple of nights hanging out with unbelievers, a day of listening to secular music and worldly messages, and soon, the...
