It certainly has been recognized over a long period of time to not be God's best for people, but in the context of culture and civilization, God only put limitations on slavery, such as having the Year of Jubilee for freeing slaves. The USA has realized over time what God desires in this matter. Christians were on both sides of the slavery issue in the USA and both sides believed in the Bible. Same is true with many issues. If Lincoln said that there are many paths to Heaven, Jesus is not the only way, you would be making a better argument. Even then, Lincoln (or anyone) might believe many other parts. So, you are not being fully logical and honest with the facts To show the error in logic: The Bible does condemn tattoos, but it was under the Old Covenant and in relation to pagans who were showing their allegiance to their false gods made up by the enemy of God. But a Christian can get a tattoo and not be in error. toywrenchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08318195751424805927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6764265087266830987.post-60425915218473511852011-10-09T23:19:26.275-07:002011-10-09T23:19:26.275-07:00The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profe...The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession.
-- Abraham Lincoln, quoted by Joseph Lewis in "Lincoln the Freethinker"

The following quotations from the New Testament require the same belief and acceptance from Christians as does the resurrection of Christ.

I quote Timothy, Chapter 1, Verse 6:

"Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their masters worthy of all honor."

And Titus, Chapter 2, Verse 9:

"Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters."

As proof that the emancipation of the Negro slaves was opposed by the Christian Church, I need but quote the testimony of the celebrated divines of that time.

The Reverend Alexander Campbell said: "There is not one verse in the Bible inhibiting slavery, but many regulating it.
