Jesus Was or Jesus IS???

Something has taken the media by storm recently and it boils down to Relationship with Jesus.

In Matt 7:21-23 and other verses we can see that relationship with Christ is of paramount importance.

There are a couple of people in the headlines recently for discussing Jesus.

Megyn Kelly says "Jesus was a white guy"  and says Jesus was a historical figure as was Santa.  (see video around 1:45 ).

Now we have Phil Robertson getting slammed for his biblical  comment.  When I hear Phil Speak he usually talks about Jesus in present tense.   Read this article where he talks about how "Jesus is the answer"  or he talks about how people can currently live "without Jesus".

I am not slamming either person.  Sometimes we may simply misspeak.  I do quite often.  But this got me to thinking.

Megyn talks about Jesus like He was a historical figure and she keeps her job.  Phil talks about Jesus in the present tense, quotes scripture and he loses his job.

Lets ponder this verse for a bit.

2Co 13:5  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

or this one.

Rom 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Clearly if Jesus is dwelling in us this is an ongoing current relationship.  A real time present relationship .  This relationship may cost us our jobs.

So with Jesus in the headlines let's take the time to examine ourselves. When we talk about Jesus do we say Jesus Was? or Jesus Is?
